Introduction to the Blog

Hello everybody and welcome to the Leadership Corner! The idea behind the name of the Blog is to corner all ideas, thoughts, examples, and stories regarding leadership. This cannot be done by one individual. Leadership should be about letting colleagues understand a wide variety of leadership styles, what works and what doesn't work, and overcoming challenges in management.

Lets embrace leadership and get our thoughts and ideas out there so everybody reading this can benefit. This is a chance for us all to look at leadership differently. Lets view these ideas together on the Leadership Corner.

  1. I would like readers to consider the importance of leadership. How important is internal from the external validation for the leader? I think we often put on our organizational persona, in character instead of being authentic. Is this a good or bad thing?

  2. I agree that too many times leaders put on their at work persona. I view this as a bad thing. People want authenticity from leadership and when they get that I think they tend to accept the visions, and organizational strategies better.

Today I had a meeting where a leader put on a "work" persona and gave a bad analogy when referencing a recent phone systems problem experienced at work. The room looked at that leader puzzled. I think this is an example of being yourself, and reporting the problem would have been accepted better by the group.

  3. Chris,
I am in strong agreement of the leader being themself. There are too many individuals in the position of team leader or supervisor that merely want to tell everyone whatever it is they want to hear. They will say whatever it takes to smooth things over and what happens is the problems that exist just build up more and more. If leaders truly lead, by example, and by being themselves, people would trust them more and follow them, as a leader should be followed. Just my thoughts.
